Grapevine Girls Golf Team Posing with Regional Championship Trophy

On April 15-16, the Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School girls golf teams competed at the UIL 5A Region 1 Championship, and both teams finished in the top three to qualify for the UIL 5A State Championship.

The GHS Lady Mustangs finished first overall, claiming their first regional title since 2018, the same year they won their second consecutive state championship as a team.

“All season long, our top six players have continued to grow and mature on and off the course.  These ladies are highly competitive and internally driven to be better than the day before. They wanted to make it back to the state tournament,” said GHS Head Golf Coach Bryan Humphreys.

GHS was led by this year's district champion, sophomore Megan Marais, who finished second overall with a score of 145. Marais shot a 69 on day one and 76 on day two of the tournament.

“We've placed in the top six in all but one tournament and our postseason success is a culmination of all that hard work. The team's confidence is at an all-time high with a district championship and now a regional championship. We look forward to bringing home some state hardware to Grapevine,” added Humphreys.

CHHS secured third place at the regional tournament, gaining its third consecutive state championship appearance for the Lady Panthers.

“This group continues to prove that toughness, belief, and commitment travel anywhere. They’ve earned another shot on the biggest stage,” said CHHS Head Golf Coach Ryan Park. “What makes this team special is they compete for something bigger than themselves. That kind of heart gives you a chance every time you tee it up.”

CHHS junior Jumee Lee, who won last year's individual regional championship, finished third overall as an individual, with a score of 146 over the two days of the tournament, one stroke behind Marais.

Both teams will compete at the UIL 5A State Championship, May 4-5, at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

Good luck to our GCISD golfers at state!
