On Tuesday, March 31, the Grapevine High School girls' soccer team competed in the UIL 5A Division II Region 1 championship game, defeating Argyle High School 4-3 in a penalty shootout. This is the eighth regional title in GHS girls soccer program's history.
“I am just unbelievably proud of the girls for all the work and dedication they have all put in to get the program to where it is today. It took a full program effort,” said GHS Head Coach Steve McBride on their accomplishment.
During the penalty shootout, senior Brooke Turner, junior Eugenia Jin, senior Maddison Patton and junior Tatum Harig all converted their penalty kick attempts to send the Lady Mustangs to their second straight state semifinal appearance. Last season, GHS defeated Argyle in the regional championship, which was also decided by penalty kicks.
The Lady Mustangs will now face Frisco Wakeland High School in the state semifinal at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco. Ticket information will be provided when available.
