At a Special Board of Trustees Meeting on January 23, Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz will recommend Ryan Smith for the position of Boys’ Athletic Coordinator and Head Football coach at Grapevine High School.
Smith comes to GCISD from East Texas Baptist University, where he was most recently the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. He has previously served as the Athletic Director of Ovilla Christian School, Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Midlothian Heritage High School, and Head Football Coach at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (now named Nelson University). Smith also spent time as a head coach and position coach at high schools throughout Mississippi and Texas.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Smith lead the Mustang football program and be the campus boys’ athletic coordinator,” said GCISD Executive Director of Athletics Todd Raymond. “The experience he brings to GHS will be invaluable along with his focus on the development of our student athletes both on and off the field.”
As a former collegiate athlete, Smith earned honors as a 2004 NAIA Preseason All-American and was named the NAIA National Player of the Week twice. In 2016, he was named Area Coach of the Year.
“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve this great district and the talented student athletes at Grapevine High School,” shared Smith. “I deeply appreciate the trust placed in me by Todd Raymond and Dr. Schnautz to lead and mentor the young men of Grapevine Football.”
Smith has a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in History and a Master of Organizational Leadership, both from Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
