Grapevine High School's head baseball coach Jimmy Webster was named the National High School Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year for Region 6, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
This is Webster's fourth coaching award this year. He also received coach of the year honors from the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and UIL District 7-5A.
“It feels kind of awkward for me to get recognized for something that so many other people actually accomplished,” said Webster on receiving the award. “I am a small part of our success. We have very talented and selfless players here at GHS, and I am part of an incredible coaching staff that works well together.”
This past season, Webster led the GHS Mustangs to their second baseball state championship in school history. The Mustangs defeated Lucas Lovejoy High School 6-5 in the state final, thanks to a game-winning hit by now-senior and state tournament Most Valuable Player winner, Jarrett Boswell.
“Winning the state championship is the ultimate award for players and coaches, but to see how much it meant to so many other people really stands out to me,” said Webster. “This is a proud baseball program rich in history, and this school and this community is one that is based on success at so many levels and programs. I am happy that we were able to add to that.”
The Mustangs start their upcoming season in a scrimmage at Flower Mound Marcus High School on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Congratulations to Coach Webster on his and the team’s success!
