The Grapevine High School Jazz Choir has received an invitation to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic and Convention in San Antonio February 7-10, 2024.
TMEA hosts one of the country's largest music conventions, drawing over 31,000 musicians, educators, students, and vendors who come together to learn, perform, and celebrate the significance of music education.
Ensembles from across the state submitted recordings for performance opportunities, and after a rigorous selection process, the top-performing groups were chosen. TMEA seeks out exceptional groups that offer unique musical experiences, surpassing the boundaries of a traditional choir setting – qualities embodied by the GHS Jazz Choir.
Dr. Paul Sikes, Director of Fine Arts, expressed his pride, stating, "We are so proud of everyone in our GHS Choir program! The Jazz Choir at GHS is such a wonderful and unique ensemble that is well known in our community for their enjoyable, upbeat and musically exceptional performances."
The chosen ensembles represent the best among school-based musical groups in the state, exemplifying the highest standards of teaching and student achievement.
"I am so excited that we now get to share these wonderful students and teachers with the entire state,” Sikes said. “Congratulations to Mrs. Sexton, Mr. Garza, and all the students, past and present, who made this possible."
